I love this time of year – in the northern hemisphere winter starts loosening it’s grip and new growth starts peeking through the soggy soil, while summer sighs it’s last breath of balmy weather making way for cool crisp nights down under. Where ever you are, it’s a perfect time to celebrate the change of seasons. This DIY Embroidery Hoop Wreath is the perfect way to bring the outside in for Easter!
Make the best of the what you have growing in your garden. I decided to use real blooms and leaves – you can easily replace these when they start to wilt, however this idea would also work with fabric or felt flowers for something a little more permanent.
I made this tutorial in partnership with the wonderful Create and Craft TV! Here’s how to make your own in just a couple of hours.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Embroidery Hoop
- Tule or chiffon fabric
- Florist Wire
- Sequin thread
- Thread to match your sequin colour
- Foliage or flowers
1. First, take a large hoop and measure your netting it needs to be slightly larger than the hoop.
2. Place your netting it in between the hoops, and pull it taught, cutting off any excess.
3. Take your text stencil, and lay it under the netting. Using a light coloured pen, draw your design onto the netting.
4. I used a running stitch to attach the sequins to the net with gold thread, however you could also use glue.
5. Now it’s time to attach the flowers. Use fine florist wire to tie each piece of foliage to the hoop, threading through the holes in the florist wire.
6. Finish by attaching a piece of gold thread to the top, and hang wherever you like!
