Upcycle a jar and invite some fairy magic into your house! This whimsical fairy jar can be used as a lantern or as a vase, and it’s so easy to make, kids will absolutely love this one. And if fairies aren’t your thing, you can swap out the motif for whatever you like! I’ve also made these with a dog motif and coloured tissue paper and it turned out great.

What you need:
A large jar (I’m using a pickle jar!)
Black sticky back vinyl
White tissue paper (or whatever other colour you like)
PVA Glue
Painters tape or transfer film
Biodegradable glitter (optional)
Steps:
Cut a piece of tissue paper that’s slightly larger than your jar. Roll the jar over the tissue paper, sticking it down with plenty of PVA glue. It doesn’t matter if there are wrinkles and other rough bits, it will add to the texture! Keep going until you’ve covered the whole jar, then trim off the excess tissue paper at the bottom and top. Use more glue to paint these down flat.

Next, prepare your motifs. I have a Cricut so I cut my vinyl this way, but if you don’t, you can simply print out your image, trace it onto the vinyl, and then cut out by hand. I’m using a couple of fairies and toadstools, but use whatever motifs you like!
Now it’s time to stick our fairy onto the inside of the jar. This can be a little tricky! Before you peel your vinyl fairy off it’s backing, place a piece of painters tape on top of the vinyl. Now gently peel the fairy off, and place inside the jar. Once your fairy is stuck down, carefully remove the painters tape. If you have transfer tape, even better!

Apply more glue to the outside, and sprinkle some biodegradable glitter if you wish, or you could skip this step altogether if you’re not a fan of glitter.
Decorate with a ribbon and some flowers and you’re done! Pop a electronic tea light inside at night and watch the fairies come to life.
