FOR THE KIDS:
I’m a big kid myself, so I love having nieces and nephews to live vicariously through. I loved craft as a kid, and as an aunty to 6 nieces and nephews (four under the age of seven) I’m always on the lookout for gifts that inspire creativity, are inexpensive, easy to make, and will keep their little mits busy for a while. And, that don’t need batteries.
These cute boards tick all of the above – and you’ll have just as much making them as the kids will have scribbling on them.
1. Source some secondhand or old baking trays from an op shop, try to find ones with the teflon worn off. Don’t waste your money buying new – you’ll just have to sand off the teflon otherwise the paint won’t stick. Make sure your magnets will stick! Give them a light sand in a well ventilated area anyway to help the chalk paint stick.
2. Paint around two coats of chalk paint, leaving to dry completely between coats. You can buy chalkpaint from most craft shops or HERE is an easy DIY recipe to make your own.
3. Make some fun magnets by buying some small plastic animals and letters in gold paint, and gluing magnets on the back. Again, see if you can source these second hand!
4. Have a cup of tea as little hands are kept busy creating.
